AIDS activists and prevention specialists are warning of an ominous new
development while cautioning against overreacting.

Być może wszystko porównuję do niedoścignionych ideałów mocnych brzmień 2007 - BK i Nick'a Sentience ah...to Planet Dance i Under The Influence ale na serio numer JOC'a jest dla mnie wyjątkowo słaby. Z techowych nowości posłuchajcie Stephan Signore - Analytic Fever czy Chemical Brothers - Hey Boy Hey Girl (Heatbeat Rework) to różnice wyczaicie z miejsca.

Siema ludki! Wróciłem do domu z wakacji, było fantastycznie, góry są piękne! Zresztą sami zobaczycie na fotkach Poznałem tam fantastyczną dziewczynę, wracam tam za tydzień na cały miesiąc ;D (Teraz tylko 3 tygodnie byłem). Przepraszam bardzo - nie mam pojęcia jakie hasło 'googlać'. Już drugi
miesiąc jest taki stan.

To prawda, obecnie zamieszkuje Floryde i tutaj ten limit jest juz od
ladnych paru lat, niestety jesli chodzi o statystyki wypadkow drogowych
ten stan przoduje w U.S.A. Zwlaszcza piesi nie maja tutaj wiekszych
szans. Moja zona zanim przystapila do robienia prawa jazdy tutaj,
musiala zakonczyc kurs, ktory nazywam zartobliwie: "Kursem dla
notorycznych alkoholikow i narkomanow", ktory to musza odbyc wszyscy
starajacy sie po raz pierwszy o prawo jazdy (nie mieli nigdy prawa jazdy
w zadnym stanie USA i w zadnym innym kraju) albo ci, ktorzy podpadli za
DUI (Driving under influence - czyli jazda pod wplywem, moze byc
alkoholu albo narkotykow). Na tymze kursie instruktor zazartowal: na
Florydzie za przekroczenie predkosci dostaniesz mandat, za przekroczenie
predkosci o wiecej niz 45% idziesz do wiezienia, za jazde po pijanemu
idziesz do wiezienia, za potracenie pieszego dostaniesz 10 punktow
karnych, jesli bedzie mogl odejsc o wlasnych silach to tylko 5 ;-).

Inna sprawa ze tutaj policja zatrzymuje kierowce
_tylko_i_wylacznie_gdy_ma_po_temu_powod. Nie ma tzw. rutynowych kontroli
i dmuchania w balonik. Po zatrzymaniu delikwenta podejrzanego o promile
policjant z highway patrol robi mu prosty test na koordynacje
ruchowo-przestrzenna. Jesli jestes naprawde pijany, nie przejdziesz tego
testu na pewno - wtedy od razu ciupa. Natomiast jesli twoj organizm ma
duza tolerancje na alkohol, to masz szanse przejsc ten test nawet ze
znacznie przekroczona norma - i odjezdzasz wolny.
Ciekawa rzecz - mam prawo jazdy od 3 lat, z czego przejezdzilem lacznie
poltora roku na Florydzie i rok i 3 miesiace w Polsce - nigdy jeszcze
nie zostalem zatrzymany, nawet do rutynowej kontroli. Pewnie jezdze jak
dziadzia. :)

The question is: can anyone justify the use of the word "przyprawione"
here? Even assuming that the translator misunderstood the original - what
meaning was (s)he trying to convey?

To me, "przyprawiony" means "flavoured, spiced up, seasoned". It could
possibly mean "fixed, attached". Neither fits this context.

Leszek suggested the following (quoting from the sci.lang.translation
thread):
"One meaning of "przyprawiony" (or "przyprawione", in the
non-masculine-personal plural) is "under a strongly perceptible but not
overpowering influence of orally administered yeast metabolites, esp.

Naturally it is one of the most popular Polish exclamations - I would
still class it as a very vulgar one though, simply because there are few
more vulgar ones that I can think of. How vulgar do you think it is? On a

about some illegal substance that those "hos" might be using.
"Przyprawiony" is from "przyprawa", meaning "spice" or something like
that. If a person would use a bit of ecstasy, cocaine or whatever is
en vogue these days, one could say that he/she is "przyprawiony".

Absolutely, I agree, there is such term.

It probably depends on how much slang do you use in common Polish. My
friend speaks in such a manner, it takes me a while to understand (or,
how he puts it in Polish, "ogarn¹Ì") what he's saying.

Is is vulgar, but it's commonly used. 13 yr. old gilrs use it. Hell,
probably 3 yr. old kids use it ;)

Too much television in stunting the language development of middle-class children as well as those from deprived inner-city areas, according to a leading speech therapist.
Dr Sally Ward, who is considered the country's leading authority on the speech development of young children, belives babies under one year old schould not watch television or wideos at all. Children of two or three should watch no more than an hour a day.
Dr Ward's 10- year study of babies and toddlers in inner-city Manchester showed television was a very important factor in delaying the speech development of the one in five children found to have problems. The back ground noise from television stopped them learning to talk as early as the should. At eight months, they neither recognised their names nor basic words like 'juice' and 'bricks'. At three they had language of two-year-olds.
Now she has found that children from well-to-do families at her London clinic are being handicapped in the same wat. 'The television in being used as a baby-sitter, with nannies particulary. We found in our study that it was quite difficult to get them interested in toys'.

Norwegian painter and printmaker whose intense, evocative treatment of psychological and emotional themes was a major influence on the development of German Expressionism in the early 20th century. His painting The Cry (1893) is regarded as an icon of existential anguish.

A gifted Norwegian painter and printmaker, Edvard Munch not only was his country's greatest artist, but also played a vital role in the development of German expressionism. His work often included the symbolic portrayal of such themes as misery, sickness, and death. The Cry, probably his most familiar painting, is typical in its anguished expression of isolation and fear.

Munch was born on Dec. 12, 1863, in Loten, Norway. He grew up in Christiania (now Oslo) and studied art under Christian Krohg, a Norwegian naturalistic painter. Munch's parents, a brother, and a sister died while he was still young, which probably explains the bleakness and pessimism of much of his work. Paintings such as The Sick Child (1886), Vampire (1893-94), and Ashes (1894) show his preoccupation with the darker aspects of life.
Munch traveled to Paris in 1885, and his work began to show the influence of French painters--first, the impressionists, and then the postimpressionists--as well as art nouveau design. Like many young artists Munch reacted against conventional behavior, and in 1892 he took part in a controversial exhibit in Berlin. His circle of friends included several writers, one of whom was the Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen. Munch designed the sets for several of Ibsen's plays.

Between 1892 and 1908, Munch spent much of his time in Paris and Berlin, where he became known for his prints--etchings, lithographs, and woodcuts. After 1910 Munch returned to Norway, where he lived and painted until his death. In his later paintings Munch showed more interest in nature, and his work became more colorful and less pessimistic. Munch died in Ekely, near Oslo, on Jan. 23, 1944. He left many of his works to the city of Oslo, which built a museum in his honor.

Mysterious force holds back Nasa probe in deep space:  

A SPACE probe launched 30 years ago has come under the influence of a
force
that has baffled scientists and could rewrite the laws of physics.  

Researchers say Pioneer 10, which took the first close-up pictures of
Jupiter
before leaving our solar system in 1983, is being pulled back to the
sun by an
unknown force.  The effect shows no sign of getting weaker as the
spacecraft
travels deeper into space, and scientists are considering the
possibility that
the probe has revealed a new force of nature.  Dr Philip Laing, a
member of the
research team tracking the craft, said: "We have examined every
mechanism and
theory we can think of and so far nothing works.  "If the effect is
real, it
will have a big impact on cosmology and spacecraft navigation," said
Dr Laing,
of the Aerospace Corporation of California.  

Pioneer 10 was launched by Nasa on March 2 1972, and with Pioneer 11,
its twin,

revolutionised astronomy with detailed images of Jupiter and Saturn.
In June
1983, Pioneer 10 passed Pluto, the most distant planet in our solar
system.  
Both probes are now travelling at 27,000mph towards stars that they
will
encounter several million years from now. Scientists are continuing to
monitor
signals from Pioneer 10, which is more than seven billion miles from
Earth.  
Research to be published shortly in The Physical Review, a leading
physics
journal, will show that the speed of the two probes is being changed
by about 6
mph per century - a barely-perceptible effect about 10 billion times
weaker
than gravity.  

Scientists initially suspected that gas escaping from tiny rocket
motors aboard

the probes, or heat leaking from their nuclear power plants might be
responsible.  Both have now been ruled out.  The team says no current
theories
explain why the force stays constant: all the most plausible forces,
from
gravity to the effect of solar radiation, decrease rapidly with
distance.  The
bizarre behaviour has also eliminated the possibility that the two
probes
are being affected by the gravitational pull of unknown planets beyond
the
solar system.  Assertions by some scientists that the force is due to
a quirk
in the Pioneer probes have also been discounted by the discovery that
the
effect seems to be affecting Galileo and Ulysses, two other space
probes still
in the solar system.  Data from these two probes suggests the force is
of the
same strength as that found for the Pioneers.  

Dr Duncan Steel, a space scientist at Salford University, says even
such a weak

force could have huge effects on a cosmic scale.  "It might alter the
number of
comets that come towards us over millions of years, which would have
consequences for life on Earth.  It also raises the question of
whether we know
enough about the law of gravity."  Until 1988, Pioneer 10 was the most
remote
object made by man -- a distinction now held by Voyager 1.  Should
Pioneer 10
make contact with alien life, it carries a gold-plated aluminium
plaque on

instant communication with other ActiveX controls on the client machine,
whether the controls are part of the Windows operating system or are
downloaded or installed from third parties. What most other browsers treat
as "plug-ins" are implemented as ActiveX controls for IE/Windows. Although
IE5/Macintosh offers a modicum of support for ActiveX, the controls devised
for Windows do not run under other operating systems, nor have IE/Windows
built-in controls (such as the basic Web Browser Control, on which many
IE/Windows features are built) been implemented as such in IE/Mac.

As a result, a few powerful Windows-only features are not available on the
Mac version. These include Data Binding (direct connectivity to server data
sources via the Data Source Object), CSS filters (for transition visual
effects and text effects), DHTML Behaviors (the action-oriented equivalent
to external style sheet definitions), IE 5.5 content editing, executing
external commands (via the execCommand() method), and the TextRange object
(allowing script control of arbitrary blocks of text independent of their
HTML containers).

Far more difficult to predict are differences in the ways the Windows and
Macintosh versions of IE render HTML elements that are not
absolute-positioned and explicitly sized (in pixels). For example, form
buttons render very differently on each OS platform, affecting not only the
look of the form control, but also the space it occupies on the page.
Additional differences in the ways the browsers report page scrolling and
event coordinates can yield unexpected results. Complicating the situation
even further is that your page's layout or design scheme can influence these
differences.

The concept of having browser scripts communicate with plug-ins and Java
applets started with Netscape 3 under the LiveConnect trademark. That term
has become almost generic for this kind of communication, regardless of
browser. IE5/Windows supports script access to Java applets and (more
importantly to Microsoft) ActiveX controls. Unfortunately, that feature did
not get into IE5/Mac. This is a big disappointment for many developers who
have built pages around the power to control media players, such as recent
versions of QuickTime and the Windows Media Player.

Ja miałem kiedyś:

Windows 95 można przyspieszyć -- do 9.81 metra na sekundę kwadrat.

Z tymi żartami jest jak z kawałami o Polakach, Żydach, Bawarczykach :),
policjantach czy blondynkach.  Pewnych ludzi, dziwnym zbiegiem
okoliczności najczęściej należą oni do grup będących wyśmiewanymi,
takie teksty rażą...  Takie jest życie i nic na to nie poradzimy.

Inna sprawa, że często pojawiają się teksty głupie, beznadziejne,
(niestety najczęściej pisane prze wannabee chakeruf, nierzadko
przy pomocy OE), podczas których pisania autor nie wysilił się
na choć odrobinę inwencji.  Chodzi mi o wszelkie "Windows to
<tu wpisać jakieś słowo, ale mi nie przychodzi żadne do głowy".
Do tej samej kategorii zaliczyłbym przykład "Linuksiarze to ch*".
(jak się domyślam chodzi o Chemików (pewnie na Uniw. Jagiellońskim).

Do drugiej, tej lepszej, zaliczyłbym teksty, które mogą być zabawne,
na przykład:

"Na opakowaniu pisało: "Wymaga DOS, Windows 95 lub lepszego".  Więc
zainstalowałem Linuxa."

Dla równowagi ;) przesyłam stary, ale mi się podobający tekst na
temat Unices:

Even the commands that are pronounceable are idiosyncratic to say the
least.  How can one understand "biff"?. As people never tire of
telling me, it is the name of a programmer's dog (but you'll note,
just in case you thought this might help you to memorize the command,
this name starts with a lower case letter). It comes coupled with a
twee American icon, that is meaningless in the UK context. And there
are other examples. Grep suggests to me that the author of this one
had been reading too much Robert Heinlein (you grok?), or possibly ---
and this is in fact quite likely --- was under the influence of
psychotropic substances at the time. Unix seems to consist largely of
arcanae which be learnt only by taking instruction direct from a
priesthood who seem largely to be stuck in the anal-retentive stage.
When yesterday's six-year olds take over Unix development (in four or
five years) I fully expect to see new commands ldo, nja, mch and rfl.
After turtles, dinosaurs. Will the command tRex devour your
competitor's data?
